A Smile to Remember
By Charles Bukowski We had goldfish and they circled around and around in the bowl on the table near the heavy drapes covering the picture window and my mother, always smiling wanting us all to be happy, told me “be happy Henry!” And she was right it’s better to be happy if you can but my father continued to beat her and me several times a week while raging insidehis 6-foot-two frame because he couldn’t understand what was attacking him from within. My mother, poor fish Wanting to be happy, beaten two or three times a week, telling me to be happy “Henry smile! Why don’t you ever smile?” And then she would smile,to show me how,and it was the saddest smile I ever saw One day the goldfish died, all five of them, they floated on the water,on their sides, their eyes still open, And when my father got home he threw them to the cat there on the kitchen floor and we watched a my mother smied. |
Just Smile
Savannah Butcher She’s alone and sad Her mother going crazy Maybe she’s gone mad Or maybe it’s the needles she’s suddenly craving Her dad walked out the door Mom and dad never got along Dad beating mom, screaming to remind her she was a whore Maybe she was bit hitting a lady will forever be wrong Her best friend dead at 13 Murdered with a bullet in the head Every night she’s been seeing her in dreams In fact she can hardly wait till bed She knows life isn’t getting easier, at least not for a while she doesn’t know what to do All she can do is smile But sometimes, most times, that’s the best and only option for you. |
Eyesight
By Savannah Butcher
On this glorious summer day
The kids are restless, no time for play
Video games, computers, and movies
Seem more important to this gooiness
The beautiful sun shining so bright
Crystal blue skies without a cloud in sight
Materialism infecting us as a society
Whatever happened to sobriety?
Needles and whiskey to make us feel happy
When without they’re like rain clouds,
Cold and crappy
But after rain comes a rainbow
Red, orange, yellow, green, indigo
My eyes see what yours do not
The scenery around me is all I want
Forget drugs, money, and love
I want beauitful blue skies, fluffy rain clouds, and whatever else lies above…

Time
By Savannah Butcher
Sixty minutes doesn’t seem incredibly long
But what if it was sixty seconds of being in the wrong?
Time to start living your life and quit dwelling on the past
Tic tock, tic tock, your time is going by fast
Sometimes, time doesn’t go by fast enough
When you’re in a bore or slump times can be highly rough
But you keep on moving like the hands on the clock
Just remember time changes, there is no lock
Do you realize what is soon to come?
Your life skips on by your time is done
Now you’ve been welcomed into an alluring scene
Where your beautiful soul is carried past the sun and into a dream.

Mother Earth
By Savannah Butcher
Look outside what do you see
now think,
In ten years what will all this be?
I dont know about you but i feel guilty
Beautiful mother earth i am so sorry
It amazes me you’re still here and shining, earth so mighty
The green and blue will be no longer
The oceans and trees can only take so much
It is us people who are at fault for the toxic smoke that lies up above
Building up and building up what have we done?
This horrible change is bound to come
Is it to late to send a message in the bottle?
Would it make it or just disintegrate in the pacific oil water?
The question is why?
Why would we do this to you?
If you saw a straw wrapper on the street would you leave it be?
Would you pick it up?
Or were you the one to let the wrapper float freely in the wind?
Ask yourself why?
Why do we treat the one place we all share like its a waste?
Generation Y,no longer, lets show what we can do
Help earth get on her feet again
The little things help too.
Now help me to help all of you

Happy
Imagine a dazzling painting or picture that amazes your eyesight the minute you lay our eyes on it. Now picture that image in your head with rips, holes, and scribbles all over it. A beautiful mess. Just like my life. I say that because my life is amazing. There isn’t anything I would rather do but live. Even though my life is magnificent, I like every other human being on this plant, has problems. Weither their little problems made up in my head or real impacting problems that truly affect my life. Although problems can be solved most of the time, no body wants to deal with them. After seventeen years of living I have come to a realization that it is okay to live life as a beautiful mess. Mainly because you cant do anything about it. Life is a bitch but a beautiful one. The number one key to life is happiness. Love, shelter, money, those things are all great to have in life but what’s going to help you through not having those things? Happiness. Happiness is the most powerful feeling someone can have. Nothing beats the power of being happy. It’s as precious as the ring from lord of the rings. Once you find your happiness never let it be taken from you. Don’t find happiness in an object. Find it in something real. For me, happiness is found in my eyesight. There is nothing that makes me happier then seeing something beautiful. Weither it’s glorious scenery or seeing a solider return home from war to his family after five years. It’s the little things in life that should make you happy. Not the five hundred dollar phones, the brand new cars, the houses with pools, it’s the little things. Happiness is an amazing quality to always have because it can be spread. If you’re happy chances are your going to make someone else happy as well. I know it’s not always the easiest thing to do, especially for those who truly live hard lives. But its not imposssibles. In fact it’s very possible. You have to change your mind set. Things are going to get better. It might not be ever seem like it because it’s taking so long but they will. I would know because I changed my look on life. I found my happiness. My eyesight. Find what really makes you happy and embrace it because life is precious.
